Pre Booking Information

Some things to consider when booking your appointment are:

  • If you need to cancel a scheduled appointment 24 hour notice is required to avoid a cancellation fee of $45/horse. For appointments down south (Cochrane, Airdrie, Calgary, Canmore) where I am travelling away from home, 48 hours notice is required or a full treatment fee of $110/horse is applicable.
  • If you are a new client or an existing client and I am working on a new horse for you, during the appointment, a saddle fit check will need to be done. This is no longer elective. Please budget for this $20 charge. There is NO POINT in providing bodywork to address primary issues if we do not ensure that an ill fitting saddle is not the reason for these issues. For bodywork to be effective we need to rule out improper saddle fit.
  • Please ensure your horse is groomed and hooves are picked out prior to the scheduled appointment time. I don’t need a super clean horse, but large chunks of dirt need to be removed for palpation purposes 😉
  • Please expect that a follow up appointment will be required within a few weeks of the initial appointment, as this is often the case.
Please plan for our initial appointment to take up to an hour and a half.
  • The person who generally cares for the horse should be present whenever possible, as I will be teaching pertinent stretching and release techniques during the appointment.
  • A homework sheet will be provided to you upon completion of the appointment.
  • I do feel it is important that the horse should NOT be trailered for 48hrs post treatment therefore, unless extreme circumstances require it, I will travel to your location to provide therapy. Whenever possible, your horse should also not be ridden for 48hrs post treatment and in certain situations, certain maneuvers should be avoided for a period of time after the therapy has been provided.
  • If your horse is in need of or due for, a trim/shoeing, please have this done prior to his/her therapy session. If upon arrival, I am unable to provide therapy to the horse due to neglected, overgrown hooves, a $40 assessment charge, as well as any pertinent travel fees will be charged.
  • Please do not book your bodywork appt within 3 days of your horse receiving vaccines.
  • In case of rain, horses MUST be dry (not wet, cold and shivering) prior to our appointment and a sheltered area to provide the therapy is required. If you cannot provide this please inform me at least 24hrs in advance.
  • When booking appointments in the winter it can be very beneficial to either ride the horse just prior the appointment OR when temperatures are below 0 degrees Celsius blanket the horse approximately 30 minutes prior to your appointment time. Appointments will need to be rescheduled when the temperature is -15 or colder as this cold is not conducive to body work.
  • If the issue could be related to the teeth, please contact your Equine Dentist or Veterinarian to assess this first.
  • For horses that are generally uneasy or herd bound, please provide a buddy in a separate area that your horse is able to see during the therapy appointment.
  • As much of the therapy I perform is provided while I am perched on a stool, please do your best to ensure we will be working in an area of flat ground. I will be VERY grateful! 🙂
  • If you would like to have your saddle fit checked please have it, as well as any pads you may use, ready and also advise me of this when I arrive. Please note there is an additional fee for saddle fit work. See the Rates page for more info.
  • If your horse is three legged lame, reluctant to use extremities or non weight bearing on a limb please call your veterinarian immediately. If you consider your horse to require emergent care for ANY injury or lameness, PLEASE call your veterinarian!
  • With your consent, I am more than happy to support open dialogue and collaboration, with and between, all members of your horse health care team!
